Call for Submissions

for the March 2026 issue

Call for Submissions

Each issue of the Deep Times Journal has a different flavor. The theme sometimes emerges from the submissions themselves, other times, it is a response to what is happening in the world or something brought up by WTR facilitators. In all cases, it is discussed and decided collaboratively within our team of dedicated volunteers.

Harvesting the Gifts of the Ancestors

Joanna Macy, our beloved Work That Reconnects root teacher, died in July 2025 at age 96.  Her passing evoked beautiful reminiscences and celebrations in her honor, re-consideration of her role in our collective and individual lives, and deepening commitment to going forth to support social transformation. Joanna has become an esteemed ancestor for so many people around the world.

The editorial team has chosen “Harvesting the Gifts of the Ancestors” as the theme of the March 2026 issue of Deep Times (that’s also the name of a key WTR practice in Deep Time).  We are seeking articles, poems, and artwork that explore how our ancestors live in us today, and how they may be offering us their gifts and wisdom to guide us in the Great Turning. We invite you to help us to create a feast from this harvest as well as to collect seeds for the future. We also seek submissions exploring how our ancestors call on us to heal the intergenerational trauma arising from colonialism, racism, patriarchy, and power-over politics and economies.

This issue will have a special section for short pieces (less than 200 words) on how the writer imagines and/or plans to carry on Joanna’s legacy in their life and work.  We invite you to write about what her passing has ignited in you, what she is now calling forth from you.  As Ian Goh wrote in a tribute to Joanna, we all go forth now as “fractals of Joanna.”

Please review our submission guidelines before sending your submission. Send an editable document to: [email protected].

The deadline for submissions to the March 2026 issue is January 12, 2026.
