This…

This translucent blue-green oasis
Floating in the midst of an otherwise indifferent–if not outright hostile–universe,
Our Mama.

Home.

A vast planet of rock with molten core
Habitable only for the lucky happenstance
Of Water on her most outer crust.

Water equals a chance at Life.

Encircled she is, blanketed round, by a thin layer of atmosphere.
One that sustains us, not too hot and not too cold, just right
And a sun, not too close, not too far, just right
As Mama Bear’s porridge.

In this miracle environment our food and babies grow.
Seeds spread by winds find a home in new soil.
Birds and flowers and butterflies–all manner of creatures–abound.

She is everything and all.  This is it.
This thin layer of resplendent blue-green sky and earth.
This.

Margaret Huff: Margaret Huff is grateful to be living on the unceded territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc peoples in so-called British Columbia, Canada. She is a lover of the natural world, and her deepest hope is that people will wake up to the vital importance of realizing our oneness and utter dependence on the Earth, and proceed with taking the best care of Her.

  1. Lovely Margaret!
Sherry Robinson here from Sorrento at Notch Hill Community Gardens (St. Marie farm)
Nice to see a familiar person in TWTR’s. I trained with Joanna Macy in 2010 on Gabriola Island.
I am so pleased to see the work expanding and spiralling outward in our more than human world.
